An Integrative Community Approach to Healing

I believe that community building is integral to the healing process. I am a compassionate community builder who brings others together to provide support, healing and acceptance.

Practitioners in the helping professions have many skills and approaches to offer and no one person or approach is the perfect fit for all.  We are psychological, emotional, physical and spiritual beings, therefore, professional support must include all these perspectives. Healing can’t be accomplished in isolation. A holistic approach to treatment is necessary.

As a therapist, I see clients with mental health issues that can often manifest as physical complaints. Psychological symptoms can often manifest into chronic pain, G.I. issues, insomnia, panic attacks, and other emotional and behavioural problems.

Frequently, my clients are also working with other professionals in their efforts to address a vast range of physical symptoms that affect their mental health. Yet, often clients are not successfully integrating their treatments. Some of my clients are confused about their symptoms and their causes, or lack necessary understanding about their medications. Others come to me with a long list of past treatments that have been unsuccessful, or are that they still engaged in and are seeking support about what to do next.
Rather than a piecemeal or incomplete treatment approach, it would be better to begin with a community approach and integrated treatment strategies to wellness that directly address the variety of symptoms the client may be experiencing. This integrated community approach also makes for a collaborative environment that allows faster, more efficient care and is client centred.
